“We live in an ‘Age of Echo’,” Haggerty said, “Everything you do sends a message, and how you respond impacts not only your reputation in the long run, but the course of the proceeding or crisis itself.”
PRCG CEO Jim Haggerty presented in early February at a widely attended conference on managing the public aspects of NCAA, Title IX and other crisis and litigation communications events. The event, Litigation Ground Zero, Tips for Leaders in Times of Crisis, was part of the 40th annual National Conference on Law and Higher Education hosted by Stetson University College of Law at the Grand Wyndham Resort in Clearwater Beach, Florida.
Haggerty was joined on the panel by two university leaders who have recently found themselves thrust into the management of high-profile crises: John Carns, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance at the University of Louisville; and Brent Ericson, Assistant Dean of Students at George Mason University.
Haggerty’s presentation highlighted the role of clear, concise, compelling messaging during litigation, investigations and other “unfolding” crises, and the importance of proper planning and execution before the crisis hits.
Carns and Ericson added their perspectives, based on particularly difficult crises involving NCAA investigations, Title IX complaints, and high-profile civil and criminal lawsuits.
Haggerty is the author of the acclaimed books Chief Crisis Officer: Structure and Leadership for Effective Communications Response, and In the Court of Public Opinion: Winning Strategies for Litigation Communications, both published by the American Bar Association (ABA).
In early 2019, PRCG introduced PRCG | Sports, a new division bringing together expertise in representing sports owners, brands and venues with PRCG’s internationally recognized capabilities in crisis communications and other sensitive reputational challenges.
