James F. Haggerty talks Taylor Swift and Politics
PRCG CEO James F. Haggerty recently opined in the pages of Newsweek on Taylor Swift’s growing influence and how it might affect upcoming 2024 US presidential election.
“She’s influenced popular culture, sports, the economics of entire regions of the U.S.,” Haggerty commented. “So why not politics and elections?”
The article helped set off a national debate on the role of Taylor Swift and her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce, in US politics, with right wing commenters even suggesting that the Super Bowl is rigged and that Swift will announce her engagement to Kelce after the game, then together they would endorse President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign.
In a subsequent LinkedIn Post, Haggerty stated: “For the record, I don’t believe the National Football League (NFL) is fake, nor that Taylor Swift is a government operative. I apologize for any minor role I played in lowering our national discourse further into tinfoil-hat territory!”
